The Big Picture – Top Skills You Should Possess: 

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of three phase electrical power engineering principals obtained from associated work with a line construction contractor, utility line work for an electric distribution utility, or other similar work experience
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of primary and secondary pole line design and construction, including knowledge of typical utility construction standards and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) clearance requirements
  • Preferred:  Experience using GIS design software (i.e. GIS Smallworld, GWD, DDS, ArcGIS)
  • Preferred:  Experience using Work Management Systems (i.e. Asset Suite 8, STORMS, SAP)
  • Preferred:  Experience using Computer Drafting software (i.e. Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley Microstation)
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to travel locally on day trips (about 30%). Travel consists of local day trips to job sites in West Virginia, Virginia, and Greater Pittsburgh Region
  • Be willing to get involved in other engineering disciplines on an as needed basis if there are lapses in the amount of Distribution Engineering work or the need to supplement other types of work being accomplished in the company

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead team of engineers and designers in electric distribution projects.  Project types will vary, but may include: new residential developments, new commercial customer connections, pole replacements, feeder upgrades, etc.
  • Perform load flow analyses, transformer loading analyses, distribution automation studies, and other electric studies or analysis.
  • Perform regular quality assurance and quality control checks on all projects prior to submission to client.
  • Organize team resources to effectively meet client schedules and internal milestones/budgets.
  • Perform and/or lead field walkdowns of project scopes.
  • Lead client communications regarding project scopes, requests for information, proposals, etc.
  • Interface with client and/or other contractors during construction regarding engineering design requests or changes.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 3 + years’ Experience leading a team of distribution designers/engineers
  • Design experience on 4kV to 35kV+ systems.
  • Willingness to travel locally on day trips (about 30%). Travel consists of local day trips to job sites in West Virginia, Virginia, and Greater Pittsburgh Region
  • Be willing to get involved in other engineering disciplines on an as needed basis if there are lapses in the amount of Distribution Engineering work or the need to supplement other types of work being accomplished in the company
  • Valid driver’s license
